Good morning! I pick up my new Jeep at lunch today! Very excited. I have been reading on the forum over the last three nights and can't seem to find my answer. I would like to put either 33" or 35" X 1250's on my new jeep right away. I will be using primarily on the beach. I need to know if I need a lift kit or not? It appears the Rough Country 4" would be a good choice to compliment 35's. Just want to be sure before I ordered anything. Two other concerns after reading the forum. Drive shaft issues with a lift kit and boot issue. I am not a mechanic, I will have the work completed by one. Just need some help from those that know. Thanks everyone!

Are you using the stock wheels?
Check out this chart,

I do not think there are any issues up to the 2.5 lift. After that I hear you will have a driveshaft issue with an automatic. I went with a 2.5 coil lift from Rough Country(10% off for forum members call Ryan Ext 123) http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_jk_2.html and I think with 35s you will have a little rub at full articulation. A forum member named N2rock did a body lift to give him a little more room and he says he has no rub. He seems to do some wild rock crawling so you might be ok without it on sand.

your best bet would be to go with a Teraflex 2.5 Budget Boost lift.. it will clear 35's no problem and you wont have to worry about driveshafts.. since your not going to be going any hardcore wheeling places and only driving on the beach.. a 2.5 lift will be great for you...

theres a vendor on our forum that will take care of you if u go with the Teraflex 2.5 BB list.. just PM ME..

EDIT... and if ur gonna run 35's.. ur going to need to regear...

Thanks for the quick replies. I have been looking at the forum about the lift kits. I have not seen any negatives about Rough Country but some mixed about Terflex. I just cannot remember where it was. Some of the others such as skyjacker, blackdiamond, old man lifts all appear to be great options as well however stiffer rides and geared towards more hardcore off roading and rock climbing. I will be using my jeep mostly as a daily driver with weekends on the beach. I want great highway characteristics with good offroad capability.

I ordered a set of adjustable rear sway bar links also so the rear links can be used on the front. That is what the TF 2.5 does. The RC does not include them or the extended brake line bracket. I went to Lowes like other guys did and got a L bracket and cut it in two and now I have 2-3" extensions.

Awesome thanks for the input. I am also quickly trying to learn the lingo. TF and RC are now part of my lingo. I guess I will also have to consider my 3.73 gears with larger tires. I may need to consider starting with 33 X 1250s for my first set until I can understand all the characteristics and requirements for lifting my new jeep. So many things to consider. I want to lift my jeep but don't want to mess things up from day one.

I ended up with 285/75R16 **** Cepek FCll's and **** Cepek DC-l wheels. I love how you cant say **** on the forum.:rofl::rofl: Everything will be in hopefully by tommorrow. It's a disease and like a tattoo, you can't stop at one. I am totally obsessed with the new Jeep. Funny since my 07 was stock right to the trade in. I think the 09 in black made it look smaller than the 07 in silver. I can't stop:eek::eek:

Okay guys so the final answer is, to go to a 3 inch lift kit and 35's I will need to change drive shafts?! Do you guys think a 2.5" with 33's would still need driveshaft changes? I just picked up the new jeep and want to get my new tires, rims and lift kit ordered asap. With 33 X1250's I believe I still need to some lift?

No driveshaft problems

I have a 3" TF lift and 35" km2's and stock driveshafts. Everything is just fine. I will eventually replace the front driveshaft but it's not necessary unless you plan on wheeling with the front end disconnected.

personally, I believe that you are less likely to need a driveshaft replacement with the 2.5 inch lift...

also, the consensus around the boards if you are looking for a soft riding lift would be the Old Man Emu 2" spring lift...from what I understand, that is one of the smoothest and softest riding lifts...from what I have read...I have the Rusty's lift...:)

Hey guys just and FYI. I was very excited to be putting a lift kit and new wheels and tires on my new JK. I had a buddy make some time at his repair shop to do the work this Saturday. Bad news the RC lift kit I ordered on Monday will not be here until one day next week, (MAYBE)..... Even though they promised it would be here this Wednesday or Thursday. After I did not get it today, I phoned RC only to be told they did not have the coil springs for the kit. They were out of them. I would not have known unless I called in search of my new 4" lift kit today. VERY FRUSTRATING since I also ordered my new tires and wheels, which I don't think will fit until I get my new lift kit installed. I canceled my RC lift and ordered a TF 3" lift kit, bilstien shocks, rancho steering stablizer, and JKS Adjustable Track bar I ordered today all to go with my new 34X1250 Nitto Terras on the Mickey Thompson Classic II with beed lock. Long and short I am very disappointed with RC. Not that a week makes a difference over the time I own my new jeep but, don't promise to send me something and then not do it. So I wait another week, however, I believe I have a lot better lift coming.
