Recently needed to pick up a beater for new kid drivers(twin boys) and found a high mileage (187k) 4.7L grand Cherokee. When I checked it out the battery was dead and had to jump it, but it fired up pretty easy and ran strong. Took it around a couple blocks and seemed solid enough. Brought it...

I have two situations I'd welcome recommendations on. The engine is a 258, date code 1990, unknown mileage. I have to admit that the engine is pretty tired but still runs well. 1. The PCV valve seems to be functioning but the PCV intake hose connecting the valve cover to the air cleaner has...

Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to read, I have a 81 cj5 with a 258 I6, and I have been fixing her up. I have always wanted a car to work on so I have been enjoying the repair and replacement of things. I just rebuilt the carb, and that was a process! I figure I should replace the...

OK Can I plug the hose coming from the pcv plug, put a filter on it, or run it down to the bottom of the engine bay? I think it is what is releasing fumes and coming back into the tub. Suggestions?

Hello I recently purchased a 1985 Jeep CJ7 that had been modified with a 304 AMC motor - Question is there is a hose hooked to a vac port on the back of the motorcraft 2150 carb that was connected to a port at the back of the manifold. The hose had a pcv valve midtream. The engine ran rough and...

Hey! Hope everyone is having a good day! I have an 05' Jeep WK 5.7L and have been encountering some unusual PCV system problems. For starters, I use a BT oil catch can with the proper hoses and fittings. I recently moved the catch can closer to the intake manifold to reduce the size of the...

The hose from the pcv elbow to the air box was cracked, so I replaced it. I replaced the water pump at the same time. Within 15 minutes I got a code 51. Should the elbow be this loose? Could it be the problem? Vacuum leak?

I'm changing the valve cover on my 1992 XJ w/ 4.0 liter and have a semi-retarded question.... For the ports for the PCV and EGR (one line back to air filter, one back to intake manifold), there are 3 small bolts securing a triangular shaped aluminum piece to the valve cover (one for each port)...

I have a 1979 CJ5 with a 6-258 and I'm having trouble understanding exactly what is supposed to be coming out of the top of the Clifford 6=8 that the PO put on. My diagram from the service manual doesn't have much in common with what I'm seeing in my car. Anyone have any experience with this...

Hey all, New to the forum! I have a classy 1990 Wrangler 4cyl. My PCV valve keeps popping off whilst I drive the beast. The engine runs fine and purrs like a kitten. But it seems like there is too much pressure under there? does that even make sense? How can I prevent that bad boy from popping...

Started noticing a fuel smell and noticed oil in the air filter about a month ago. I did some research and replaced the PCV valve and hoses - no change. Ended up replacing the fuel vapor canister - checked the hoses for obstructions - all clear. Started her up and fuel started leaking from...

Guys, I am trying to find the breather tube that goes from the valve cover to the air filter. Mine is a Grand Cherokee 1998 and has a curved tube at the end. Does not connect to the passenger side of air filter, it connects to the drivers side. Cannot find it .anywhere. Thanks

I have 89 jeep with 4.2 that has a little bit of oil seaping out of pcv, breather, and oil cap grommets. I have checked pcv, it has suction. Breather filter is 1 month old and is soaked in oil now. I have heard that the baffles in these valve covers dont work very well. I have looked for new...

My Jeep has about 114K miles on it. About 6 months ago, it set a code P0420. I replaced all four O2 sensors, but this did not fix the issue. Recently, I replaced the spark plugs and PCV Valve. The plugs that came out of the #4 cylinder looked very dark and had carbon on them. The rest of the...

In late February of this year, I installed an MC2150 along with a TFI distributor/coil upgrade. It has performed perfectly until two weeks ago. Two weeks ago, I swapped my 4.2 head for a 4.0 head and now I'm blowing carbon and running rich. Plugs are sooty with carbon. It still runs well, but...

I just recently purchased my 89 jepp cherokee 4.0 6cyl. It ran flawlessly for the first week and suddenly when driving i noticed a huge power loss when pressing the gas. It felt like it wasnt getting enough gas, so I changed the fuel filter. Didnt help. I then noticed oil in the air filter, so I...

I have a 77 Cj7 with a 304. Just rebuilt the motor on it. When it runs, oil is coming out of the dipstick. I did put a pcv valve that I got from Autozone on but it seems like it's just a big black plastic tube that's hollow in the middle. Also, is it suppose to connect to the port at the bottom...

The PCV valve is a pretty simple device, but it performs a potentially critical function. It is, essentially, a regulated vacuum leak, drawing contaminated air from the crank case, rather than letting it vent to atmosphere, as in days gone by. If you look at old pictures of roads and highways...

Hi all, I have two pcv's in my rocker cover on my 4.0 head (on my 258 block). I noticed yesterday that with the engine running both hoses are collapsed under vacuum from the intake. Is this bad? I don't think the engine can breathe like this and theres no way anything can get past those hoses.
