Find an 01 that is wrecked, get the front seals off of it. Then go get a bottle of rubber conditioner like Gummi Pflege Stift, clean them and then treat them. NO NOT USE ARMOR ALL. It's full of silicone which will break down the rubber.

I had the same problem with my sunroof squeaking. I thought for sure it was the frame. Turned out it was the seals. The seals are not lubricated from the factory. I purchased on Amazon a bottle of Gummi Pfledge. I used it to lube all the seals in the sunroof and haven't had an issue since. I drive a lot of gravel roads that caused it to squeak, so I was grateful to solve the problem so cheaply. Ugh, all that tech involved, and you are down for the count over hardware.
FWIW, the convertible guys love this stuff for keeping seals from sticking. I haven't used it yet. I like to just spray silicone stuff on a rag and wipe.
