haha see a lot of people throwing the top back on. I thought about doin that today lol will be removing the OD half doors and installing the black full doors and black hard top...on the original sahara glossy olive green yuck! Any thoughts on the hardtop reinforcement kits? I had the machine screws holding the bikini header on pull out of the frame right at the end of summer lol Now I am looking at getting these Rnventions JO100 - Hard Top Reinforcement Kit for 87-95 Jeep® Wrangler YJ - Quadratec and maybe one of the quick kits for the rear bolts.

I have a 1992 Yj with a hardtop and full stell doors. I'll be using a Safari Top for the summer. I figured now is a good time to work on my hardtop.

Anyone know where to get touch-up paint that works for a Hardtop? Mine is starting to look pretty ****ty!

Has anyone ever used one of these Hardtop reinforcement kits?
Is it worth the time and effort?

      Thanks!!!!!

You can go with those or the hard top reinforcement kit from Quadratec.com

It is worth it. Sitting in my basement waiting to go in.
Rusty, Have you looked at that kit close enough to know if you will have to redrill the existing self-tapping holes? Probably in the next couple of years or maybe even next year, I am going to have to replace my windshield frame when I have the Jeep re-painted, but for now I thought about going with that kit as the PO has already drilled seven extra holes for the self-tapping screws. I'm just curious as to what the kit you have requires.

X2 on the sheet metal screws in the windsheild. If they are bad you can get the Hard Top reinforcement kit from Quadratec. Works great. I have it going in this fall on mine. Link to Kit

As for the tub bolts, like stated above, I just use bolts & nuts along with some fender washers and life is good.

The batt, just look into a nice DieHard or optima batt. Going up in CCA's will not harm your rig.

I've been eyeing a strapless bkini ever since I got the Jeep since it came with an old tattered one with straps. I think the strapless ones look much cleaner, and hopefuly a new black one won't show mud stains as bad as that spice colored one has. I was just wondering if any of you who use one could post some pics of it on your YJ.

If you don't know exactly what I'm talking about here's a link. Bestop 52509-01 - Bestop Strapless Bikini Tops for 87-91 Jeep® Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

My second question is about those windshield channel and hard top channel reinforcing kits. I know I'm not the only one who is tired of stripping out the screw holes  The kits they advertise are supposed to replace the screws with either threaded bolts or rivets of some sort.

      Here are the links:
-Windshield channel kit Rnventions JO141 - Soft Top Reinforcing Kit for 76-95 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7, CJ-8 Scrambler & Wrangler YJ - Quadratec
-Hard top kit Rnventions JO100 - Hard Top Reinforcement Kit for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

      Anybody ever try these out?

      Do they work?

      U clips

I am looking to solve this issue as well, for a YJ but similar problem. Quadratec sells a hardtop reinforcement kit that comes with pre-machined screw holes located along a reinforcing strip. Gonna look into this, however U-Clips might just work.

I just installed a rugged ridge hood lock latch, and uClips (that came with it) allowed me to install it along the slotted bolt holes with freedom to move it back and forth before tightening it down to get it in the right location.

Im gonna try to located some U clips that will fit around the lip that is on the top of the sheet metal windshield, or maybe fit up under the lip. Will let you know if it works. Looks like sears sells a trademark Uclip kit for $14.00

Yeah those screws suck. This may be the solution you need. Rnventions JO100 - Hard Top Reinforcement Kit for 87-95 Jeep® Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

As far as removing the top yourself, as others have said, the lift is the way to go! I love mine and also store it in the summer hung on the rack.

But I have in the past on a CJ I had, get in the back of the Jeep and put my back on the top, stand up and walk it off onto a trailer or something off the ground where you can just step off while carrying it. They aren't real heavy, just awkward to handle.

I did not know that is what it was called but I welded nuts to the windshield frame thus ending up with the same results. I believe if I find some nice draw latches I will clamp it in, to "Snug the Seal to the windshield frame" and then install the screws. Probably overkill but that's how I occasionally roll. I may have to elongate the holes in the pop as well, all easy to do jobs.
