one thing that I learned for mine getting re- painted is just how little-- & I mean LITTLE base & clear the factory puts on these vehicles. My paint & body guy has been doing this stuff for almost 50...

You might want to go down to Auto zone and get a bottle of that Indian head shellac by Permatex and use that to seal the strainer in there first

Its great stuff- leaks dont get by that stuff

The tack weld is only there to ensure that the strainer does not fall off into the pan due to vibration etc...... To make it where it will not move / spin

What a lot of exp. engine builders do is put a small tack / stitch weld there ( use a 309 stainless rod )

Mine stays pretty close to 50 PSI , give or take 5 psi , between cold start ups, driving down the road warmed up and hot idle-- hot idle is a tad over 40 PSI

With one caveat-- when my sender goes...

I have removed many a transmission in my day- all out of older GM V-8's all with similar 2 piece RMS's
I just dont see how its possible to damage it by R&R a tranny
