I think I like them better.

Keep close tabs on the manufacturer specs. Lots of transmissions (unlike rear axles) have brass/bronze synchros. Not all lubes (including rear axle lubes) play well with yellow metals.

No it's not irrelevant. These guys have done far more testing, have far more internal knowledge than any amateur. There have been plenty of places that have been tested (as well as the calibration)....

At 250K and 20+ years my 4.2 was still clean inside (opened it up because the rear main seal faled)
