thanks for your reply, it is oil, brakes are shot, back to the question, the axle does not simply pull out. Backing plate and all bolts removed. Is there a trick in removing a stubborn axle?

I have a 1952 M38a. It needs a axle seal in the rear. After I get the hub off, what is the trick to removing the axle? Are there C-clips involved. What is the process in removing the axle?
