Yeah, 31's with a two inch lift usually require a little trimming on the bumper, 33's with no lift is gonna be a lot of trimming on the bumper and probably the fenders too.

2-speed PTU seems to be referring to a 4wd model (power transfer unit). Kev, what OP's referring to is called flat towing, which is what JeepCares is talking about.

The long arms mount farther back on the frame closer to the transmission crossmember IIRC. Doesn't sound like the metal there would be an issue for OP.

The driveshaft probably got pulled because the viscous coupler in the transfer case went bad. That's generally why the front shaft gets pulled with a 249 transfer case.

How's the fluid level? Sounds like the transmission fluid might be low. Make sure you check it with the transmission warm and in neutral, and add ATF+4 if it needs it.

It would only be 2" shorter. The diameter is 2" shorter going from a 35 to a 33, but only 1" of that is contributing to the height. And then another inch for the springs being shorter.
