I had a thermostat come apart in my Mustang nearly thirty years ago. The pieces are still in the top radiator tank. No problems.

Yep, the pieces are in the top tank of the radiator. With the radiator out of the Jeep, you ought to be able to shake the pieces out.

Have you flushed it out? It might be clogged with sediment and not flowing coolant.

Disconnect both heater hoses at the water pump. Press your garden hose nozzle against the end of one heater...

It was 11˚F when I fired mine up this morning. It beeped at me for half a second, I presume because the motor oil was thick and slow to build pressure at the sensor.
