I don't know what the crank looks like on a 1974...

I don't know what the crank looks like on a 1974 motor but if it does not have a flange on the back maybe they make something like this for the earlier motors.

Is that a 2 piece seal or a one piece similar to what they used on the 1980'0-1990's 5.0 motors? I know they make a press on sleeve for the cranks that use a one piece seal.

It might be the dash headlight switch if all the lights do not work. If it was only the headlights, I would say to look at the floor dimmer switch also as that circuit is the trigger for the relays....
