Any chance you are hearing piston slap? My 99 tj always had some until 160k when a piston skirt broke. Bored and rebuilt with good quality matching pistons and is now quieter then it ever was.

I had a piston skirt go at 150k miles, had the entire motor rebuilt and bored .002 over. I also believe the pistons/bores are too loose from the factory causing this issue.

OP it sounds like axle u joints to me, that is what mine felt like when they went.

I run my 33x10.5 AT at 12 psi on an 15x8.5 rim. Fairly rocky terrain and have never lost a Bead. I use to run 33x12.5 MTRs on a 15x8 rim at 10 psi again never a problem.
