A 4.0 with the NV3550 trans and a model 20 or 300 transfer case would make
a nice drivetrain for the jeep you are wanting.

Be sure to double check both axles you use are still the same ratio.

This is true, but, IMHO more choices of ratio is better in a Jeep. this is why I suggest a 4sp
and in reality it would be fine behind a V6 or I6 both choices are good engines.

for Highway driving to wall mart a CJ7 6cyl T5 is much more comfortable but less simple.
