Pick up some JK take offs for shocks. Typically can be had for less than $80. The rubicons are red and are slightly stiffer, 08s and later are all gas no matter what they came off of for JKs.

Nope, then it just wouldn't work, or it would work intermittently. You have a hot wire that's worn thru the shielding and is touching metal. Take the taillights off and check where the wires go...

I'm assuming it's a tear/rip and not just an outright hole. Use some fishing line with a needle to draw the fabric together, then some black silicone sealant.
