Have you noticed that the studs on the new ball joints are longer than older/factory joints? This would leave a bit of a gap on the uppers but if that specifically doesn't matter than I won't worry...

1. Install the split nuts to a depth of .206" from the bottom of the knuckle (per Haynes)

or

2. Torque to 55ft lbs after tightening the upper ball joint but...
