NOT really. In any configuration where it's an apples to apples comparison, with or without split-ring washers, loctite, etc., the deforming nyloc ring adds more holding power to any configuration...

Yes 3/8x24, Grade 5 is fine. A Grade 5 nylock nut would be work well. I don't know about the replacement after used 3 times, I've removed/replaced mine more than that with out replacing them.
