Flaring is not that hard, but the clamp is very important. If the line slips at all the flare will be crap. Doing it mounted on the jeep you would want quality tools. Cheap ebay crap (or similar)...

Maybe in theory they have equal chance of occurring but over the last 10 years here the stuck open (and overflow) is much more common by multiples.

I don't think VIN has to be updated. Plenty of people put JY PCMs in and don't change the VIN.

Requires a lot more than a simple scanner to do. I think most go the dealer to have it done.

By the time you cut that off, have a new one welded on, install new centering ball and u-joints and then the shaft balanced you are going to be looking at about as much or more than just calling up...
