I was using a mobil 1 filter with synthetic oil...I just changed the oil yesterday and switched over to regular oil and and mopar filter to see if it would do anything but it didn't change anything.

Yeah i'll try that this weekend. Another strange thing about the noise is that it doesn't start immediately at cold start-up, it takes about 20 seconds before it starts.

Yeah it's an aluminum case. I'd be using a propane torch and heating up the lower drain plug. The hex part is stripped.
