you don't have to pull the engine to replace the fly wheel but you do have to remove the transmission....then it is as easy as unbolting the old fly wheel and bolting in the new one.....i am not sure...

i think your idea of going to a MC2100 (1.08 venturi) is a good one....that 4 brl is WAY too much for the 258.....in the mean time you can try running on just 2 brls by disconnecting the throttle...

my '88 recently developed a vibration felt only in the steering wheel and usually around 40-45 mph...it does not matter what gear i am in ....usually after 50 mph the vibrations either get much less...

sounds like you don't have the idle screws adjusted properly and the carb is running rich at idle.....after the engine is at normal operating temps slowly turn in one of the idle screws on the front...

you should be fine using new stock springs......the only time you need to use stronger springs is in a high reving engine so that the lifters will stay in contact with the cam lobes...the 4.2 is not...
