I could be wrong, but on a 1998 you can only get the codes through the OBDII port. Pre 1996 Jeeps had to do the key turning trick. The codes flashed out on the check engine light.

Ditto. If your geometry is groovy and your parts aren't worn, you won't have DW. I threw away my stabilizer almost 2 years ago, I think. Zero problems.

IMO, the "kits" you see are probably over priced for what they are (like anything, right?). You should be able to make your own with $10 of steel...
