Been there done that. My next step involved removing everything off the frame to get a better look. ended up breaking that nut loose and welded a new one in. and rebuilt the damn Jeep in the process.

replaced the clutch linkage then took it for a spin. Probably need to adjust the linkage by shortening the adjuster. Other than that having a new return spring on makes for a much stiffer clutch...

Drilled and tapped two holes and bolted the bracket holding the clutch linkage back to the bell housing. Then put some miles on it. Loaded up the boys and put some more miles on it.

Sometimes the drive can be worth it. In my case it was a 14 hour round trip from OKC to Austin, TX for a "mostly" rust free Jeep body. only had to patch in under the roll bar.

Just to drive home the point. replace all the lines at the same time. I had some lines on the CJ 5 rebuilt that were scary thin in spots. The break lines folded up with ease to go into the dumpster....
