OK, I swapped the rotor and cap with ones from the parts Jeep that I know are good... no difference. Other ideas? I'm going to wind up having a shop look at it and paying for them to fix something...

For future searchers...it was indeed the alternator. I put up with these symptoms for a little while longer until I had the Jeep refuse to start... the failing alternator had killed the battery....
