That's correct. The difference will be obvious. Here's a pic showing the differences in length (compliments of Fourtrail on another thread). Top is a FSJ, bottom is a CJ.

While it may be true that some CJs came with T177/D300 combo, I can almost guarantee you they didn't have the longer FSJ input shaft.

I don't want to argue either, but I looked at a lot of FSJ...

From Advanced adapters:

VARIATIONS The T176 also had a couple different offshoots known as the T177 and T178. These were basically the same transmission as the T176 but with minor variations. The...

In addition to the longer input shaft, another problem you may will encounter is your D300 t-case will likely need an adaptor to mate to the T177, as the two were never married together from the...

I'm not sure where you're getting your conflicting answers, but they are wrong. It doesn't require pulling the trans to confirm. If you still aren't convinced, just measure the distance from the...

The answer is going to be the same, regardless of how many threads you ask the question on. The J-truck transmission will not work in your CJ unless you're able to find the shorter CJ T176 input...

Yes, the input shaft will be way too long for your CJ because the j-truck's bulkhead is much deeper. The gearing is also different than the CJ T176.

I'm not sure you can draw too many conclusions from that test. I'd visually check all the plugs. My bet is they are all fuel fouled to some degree.

You could also hook your timing light up to...

The J-truck transmission will be a T177 or T178, not T176. The input shaft will be too long for your CJ.

You will also need a bell housing with a Ford style "butterfly" bolt pattern to swap to...
