|jeepskate||Tape a piece of string to your driveshaft and put a tape or chalk mark on the driver side rear tire. Hop in, look at the rear tire, and drive forward one revolution. Hop out and check your string. You probably have 2.73's. There should be tags on your diffs as well. Obviously pulling the cover is *the* way to find out, but the other methods will get you in the ballpark.|

|plain76cj5||If you spin one tire and the other doesn't move, it means you have an open differential (not limited slip). Also, when trying to determine your rear diff ratio, if you spin one tire and the other doesn't move the spider gears are actually halfing the speed of your driveshaft. More than likely you have a 2.73 or a 3.08 rear diff ratio. You can have someone try to turn the other tire at the same speed as you turning your tire, and then count the driveshaft revolutions. The best way is to remove the diff cover and count the teeth of the ring gear and the pinion gear to get the ratio. #of ring gear teeth/ #of pinion teeth. Most ring gears have the ratio or the tooth count stamped on the outside edge.|

1.45:1 rear gear ratio?
Either I have some jacked up gears or I"m not doing something right, but I was trying to determine what my gear ratio is. For 1 rotation of the tire, my rear driveshaft rotates 1.45 times. I doubt there is such a ratio that exists, am I missing a formula or something.
One more question, what does it mean if I rotate one tire and the other one doesn't move either forward or backward?
