The two most important skidplates to have are for the gas tank and oil pan. This is based on the high level of vulnerability of both items and guaranteed likelihood that they will be regularly impacted by rocks, etc. on the trail. The gas tank is usually the item most often hit when offroading and thus really should be protected first. My gas tank's skid plate has been hit so hard so many times that it has paid for itself probably a hundred times by now.
On the other hand, my oil pan skidplate has never been touched by the rocks in eight years of rock crawling. But even so, it needs a skidplate from the first day since it only takes one rock in the right place at the wrong time to puncture your oil pan and likely ruin your engine.
Skidplates for other things like the steering box, control arms, etc. are great but should be installed only after installing the gas tank and oil pan skidplates. Yes the gas tank looks like it already has a skidplate but trust me, that sheet metal that serves primarily just to support the tank provides nowhere near the protection a true skidplate does.

you've got the terminology a little off on the SYE...you don't "build" another SYE...however, you will probably need a longer driveshaft, and you can have yours redone locally for $100 or so...

don't a lot of the gas tank skids require a body lift?
If one were to do... say a 3.5 RE SF lift and did an SYE at the same time would they have to have another SYE built down the road if they wanted to do a belly up?

It seems like the first skids to buy should be the front diff skid and the gas tank skid. Then you should get armor for everything else.

Front Lower Control Arm Skids
I've now come across quite a few Jeeps with busted up lower control arms...It pretty much sucks to repair one I've heard
