That scratch on the hood came from laying the hood back on the glass. The scratch was created by the cowl that was on there previously. I have a 97 too, but am replacing it with a 98+ cowl. I'll paint it and any cowl to match. |

To the OP: I have an 03, so not the same design as yours. But I wanted to clean up the cabin air when running over many dusty roads in the summer. I found this: Clean Air Scoop with Filter, Jeep, Wrangler, TJ, LJ, Rubicon, Unlimited, Cabin filter So instead of laying out stupid money for something I could fab myself, I used jay cloths tightly stretched underneath the vents (you could also buy flat K&N filters and somehow attach them underneath the vents in the cowl). I then put a womans knee high stocking over the stock intake box inside the cowl. It's stretchy enough that it stays in place. Voila! Clean cabin air and no need to buy expensive hood/cowl scoops. Just my :2c: P.S. - Bottom pic of the cracked windshield: You have a RHD? |

Outland (model 5306) made one but it appears that they have been discontinued. Have tried 12 different websites, including JC Whitney and eBay, to no avail. My buddy has one on a 98 and makes a big difference in the cabin airflow.
Does anyone know who might have this item to fit my jeep or know of anyone that will custom make it in the Atlanta area??? THANKS!!! |

Facing with the inlet backward, toward windshield, would not restrict flow but would be considered turbulent flow. With the inlet facing forward like mine it is basically a type of forced induction. However, I don't really think it makes a big difference or matters which way you face it for this application, more of a looks thing really. Do it which ever way you like best. ![]() I do get some additional positive pressure in the air system but not a big difference. . ![]() |

Yes, 97 was the only year for the cowl that used this wider scoop. 98-06 used the smaller version, so 9 years of production gave a wider market base and only one year of production would not be a broad enough customer base to warrant further production runs on this product. So no more of this one. Here is mine. ![]() . |

ilovegeeksnj | a couple of years ago there was a guy on ebay that made custom ones and he made them for 97's also. thats a good idea to use the sunroof deflector! |
