animalv3 now will the computer read it? am i splicing connections and such or will it be plug and play? i dont mind check engine if it drives fine hah

allenjp Good point. IDK how it is in MA, but in CA you won't pass smog with a CEL on...

ratmonkey you'll get a check engine light, no trans computer.

allenjp They were both used for the same engine and t-case...seems like you should be good to go. You should just make sure that all the clearances would work. Don't take my word for it though. I understand why you would want that AW4 tranny, I had a '93 XJ with that tranny and it is a BEAST.

Will an AW4 bolt into a 42re spot no problem or/

Hi i have a beautiful 42re sitting in my 98 ZJ and its beggining to slip here and there, my friend has a aw4 out of a 88 XJ sitting and is in mint condition just about. I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding both of these transmissions which both had 242's bolted to it. Hoping for the best any info will help
