I will inspect the wiring and advise back with some more information.
Thank you big time!

|jtec||kg6mov has a point esp if a downstream o2 - if you could post the code.|

|kg6mov||The O2 wiring and the transmission control wires are in the same loom. If there’s damage there it could do what you’re describing.|

No other codes related to the transmission.
The only one I get is for the oxygen sensor which I will change very soon.
The issue continues. Funny thing is, that when the transmission dries out, it goes all back to normal.
No issues or clue that it was in limp mode.

You may want to pull the connector off and have a look at the wires/terminals.

I should explain my thinking, the question about speedo was related to wiring at trans the 5v circuit is shared by governor pressor sensor* and speedo VSS. Was hoping for a circuit clue to look at something to focus on.

If it only happens when it's raining, my bets are on wiring harness/ connector issues. Transmission main connector is next to the shifter levers on the drivers' side, if it looses connection you'll be in limp mode immediately.
Transmission speed sensor is used for transmission operation to determine shift points, governor pressure curve selection, and so on. PCM does compare the speed signals from TSS and VSS for certain purposes, of which one is detecting when vehicle is in 4lo.

Are there any other codes, will the CEL come on?
If the cel comes on maybe try a SCANNER sometimes trans codes will not show up with key trick - hey its a free check.
Anyway rain has me thinking wiring, check the trans solenoid connector and wires.
Want to add any issues with speedo ?

Changed both the governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure sensor.
Today, it was rainy again and the transmission went into limp mode again, even with both solenoids changed.
Does anyone have any ideas what might get wet so it can cause the tranny to go into limp mode?
Thanks in advance.

ZJ Trasmission going into limp mode in rainy days - 44RE
I got this 96 Grand Cherokee 5.2 with the 44RE transmission mounted.
These days it is raining a lot here and my transmission started to go into limp mode after driving it for 3-4 km in wet conditions.
It is either stuck in second or like most of the times it's getting stuck in third, when "Drive" is engaged.
When moved down to second it shifts to second, and if I accelerate and change from either 1st or 2nd it Shifts into 3rd and it shifts all the gears up to the O/D.
I noticed that the kick-down is not working. It downshifts only one gear.
It's like its automatic function doesn't work if I do not shift down to the second gear.
And it is behaving like this only in wet conditions.
I have already ordered the Governer Pressure Solenoid, but the funny thing is it is going into limp mode only when it's rainy or snowy. It's just like something is getting wet and makes the transmission go into limp mode.
I'd appreciate any advices.
