The shop is feeding you a load of crap Unless there’s some thing about your wheels (aftermarket?) that is actually contacting the rotor. And if that’s the case, larger rotors would probably make the problem worse . On the patriot, the stock 16 inch and 17 inch rims are interchangeable regardless of rotor diameter. I’ve actually never seen rotors crack before and I’ve beat some with a 10lb sledge hammer to get them off on occasion.

I've got a 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport with 17" wheels. Just had the rotors replaced a few months ago and they're already cracked.
