sc000ba Hey everyone! My wife and I pulled the trigger on a 2015 Summit, 5.7l. Only 25k miles for $26,000. Could not pass on this deal. Seems like the car was never driven! The original owner had the dealer put on undercoating and 3m clear bra too. Looking forward to many years of ownership and road trips pulling our travel trailer!

drunkmonk Bought a 2018 Grand Cherokee with 16k miles for $30k out the door. My mechanic told me it was excellent condition and looks like it was never driven. Excited to be part of the Jeep fam!

jblakeman The newer cars simply have more issues in areas (like internal engine) that older cars don’t suffer from...have a friend with 325K on a 2004 WJ with the 4.0 AMC I6...it’s had a lot of wear and tear items replaced (hubs, shocks, exhaust, brakes, etc.) but the engine, trans, and drivetrain is SOLID...

ColdCase Just saying that there are examples of bad luck with any model. Look through the WJ forums from the 2000s. There are many more examples of good luck, so the money is on the house.

The kids didn't drive the WJ (the girls were either too young or had a beater to drive) It was driven mostly by the spouse and she is an overly cautious driver, or on a couple annual cross country trips. It looked pretty much brand new when totaled, except for the wheels. No sign of rust anywhere, interior was perfect, no sign of wear.

Her previous Chrysler wagon went 120,000 miles without issue besides the trim rusting off. She's got 140,000 miles on the Liberty, only issue was the common heater core and blend door issue and one front wheel bearing. That Jeep looks brand new, even the wheels. It has the factory life time drivetrain warranty, however. Drivetrain does not include wheel bearings or HVAC.

ColdCase Ram and Chargers seem to have more of an issue than WK2s, especially certain model years There are differences in timing, manifolds, and cams, but then there are a lot more of them. It appears to be the random roller rocker manufacture defect that plagues everyone, especially GM V8s.

I don't know what happened to your vehicle but should not be in the shop that much. I've owned 6 or 7 long term vehicles (Ford, GM and Jeep) that we kept for a long time and took to 150k miles. That's why I would not buy a Jeep with air, that's an example of something you know is going to fail. The only thing that failed on our WJ, and we did do a lot of trails with it, was a front U-joint.



My father has owned a garage for about 60 years and while we do see anything and everything break occasionally, lifters and cam are an above average more reliable part of the motor.
Not that rare on the VVT HEMIís....take a peek at the Ram / Charger forums....

ColdCase FCA is not losing money on the deal, so the odds are with the house. But its like insurance. You can self insure, but If you are not liking unexpectantly getting hit with a $5000 repair bill and have to scrounge for the money, then paying up front may be worth the piece of mind. The more bells a whistles on the Jeep, the likelihood of expensive repair bills go up, so you may think about worth on a base Laredo, but the warranty seems like a good deal on a Summit.

Chuckmiller The dealer replaced the air suspension compressor and radio touch screen recently, I'm sure that was 4 figures. With airbags, radar, sensors, motors, you name it, etc and the length of time I expect to keep this Jeep this warranty will very likely pay for itself more than once.

My 2004 Chevy Avalance was in the shop 14 times in 6 years for all sorts of repairs including a transmission at 52,000 miles. That warranty paid off in gold.

jblakeman Mine has needed over $5,000 in parts and labor since I purchased MaxCare. Now it's in for lifters / cam replacement (possibly a new engine...)....yep I say it's worth it...

On the average you expect a WK2 to require over $3395 in repairs in 5 years? The 6 long term vehicles my family has driven over the past 25 years all combined have not cost that much. (3 Ford, 1 Jeep, 2 GM).
