Leather Dashboard

Anyone else have issues with the leather on their dashboard starting to delaminate? My '12 GC Overland has large ripples on the dash now where the leather has separated and is progressively getting worse. I don't imagine there is any semi-EASY way to remove the dash and re-glue is there? I'm sure this isn't covered under my warranty...

I am going to guess that they don’t have anymore parts left. When I had mine done about 4 months ago, they authorized a complete dash replacement, but the dealer couldn’t find any parts. We found one in Europe, but they knew the high demand and were asking $2000 for it plus $500 freight! I went to my local mechanic and we bought a dash out of a wreck, but it was broken in a couple of places. We found a local car upholstery shop, and they recovered my dash with a very nice padded leather look material.

I had my GC for a little over a year. I had to do a water pump, drive shaft, dash and at the end, the transmission was slipping and the air suspension was on its way out. Too much for me!

I bought a 2017 Audi Q7, which is a whole other step up in refinement. It can also tow up to 7700 lbs.

You have to go to a dealer, where they will take pictures and submit to FCA. Otherwise you may be waiting awhile for a response from Jeep that tells you the same thing. :)

Mine is in now for new dash. 2014 (purchased 4/2015 as leftover) 190000 miles. Garaged day and night. Unfortunately the one they received was damaged, so now waiting another week for second replacement. Went through Jeep Cares, and told dealer I was opening a case. This is when I feel it is good rapport to have dealer complete maintenance work. It also didnt hurt that I was spending 1400.00 for a new catalytic converter, second one on left side of engine.

Well my 2016 High Altitude started bubbling last week. Dealer says it's the latest one they've seen it happen to, so guess I have that going for me. Did say they'll replace it at a courtesy but with a pretty non-trivial co-pay. Happy it'll get fixed, still pretty annoyed I'm out of pocket anything on an issue that Jeep's had half a decade to resolve...

maybe im an optimist but complaining that your dash will be replaced for $250 seems like excessive complaining? Yes i understand in a perfect world we would purchase something and never have to put any money back into and it would work forever and nothing would break...but...

Just imagine how the people feel that would love to pay $250 but their local jeep stealership wont even give them that option

I appreciate that I'm better off than some in this, but just because I'm in a less crappy position than others doesn't mean that it's not crappy. Jeep doesn't seem to doing anything to actually fix the issue since it's been ongoing for a decade, so why would I assume that this isn't going to happen again in a couple years? I'll certainly be out of pocket the whole cost then. I don't think it's totally wacky to expect non-wear components on a near-luxury SUV to last longer than a few years. My '08 Wrangler has a few cosmetic issues with the vinyl cracking, but it's over a decade old, that's fine. The Grand cost three times as much and is substantially newer, I expect better, everyone should expect better.

My preowned purchased 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit leather dash started bubbling about 4 months ago. Got a price from a local Jeep dealer for $3,000. Thought it was a lost cause until I saw your forum and the positive response from Jeep. Please help.
I m in New Orleans, LA. 505-470-0916.

Thank you,

Hi, I have a 2011 GC overland I bought earlier this year! It currently has 129,500 miles on it. Dash is peeling back so far it is is blocking the defrost and the vent won’t even sit in place, quite a driving distraction. Contacted Jeep Cares through the forum as advised by everybody here. They got me in contact with a case rep. I went and got a quote from the dealer for $3400. They were pretty quick in response but were unable to do anything for me. They said being the mileage and year of the vehicle it is out of warranty and there was nothing they can do to help besides buying an aftermarket and installing myself.

Just thought I would give my experience with the peeling dash. I would think by now they would have this flaw figured out. It was worth a shot to see if Jeep would do anything about it but I was denied.

My $.02
ABSOLUTELY....!!

This is definitely a defect in workmanship proven by the extreme number of cases.
JEEP CARES....Help this customer out !

My experience with my 13 overland and its dash made me sell the car. The dealer and Jeep wanted nothing to do with it. It only had 79K miles and when the air suspension started having issues out of warranty i was done with it. I wish i knew about this forum then, Maybe i could of had it dealt with. Its a shame. I currently have 3 jeeps, 2 17 GC Limited and a XJ. I'll never buy an overland or anything with the fancy dash or air ride again. I still love my jeeps.

I have a 2014 Overland that is garaged and I also live in San Diego so no hi heat or cold and mine is also starting to bubble up along the front edge. Also use a sun shade when parked outside. Over 5 years old so out of warranty as well.
Hi Norvim and rsorrell2,
We're sorry to hear that you are both experiencing this. Feel free to reach out to us via PM should you decide to have your dealer look into this. We'd be happy to see if there is anything we can do on our end to assist.

I have a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I noticed the same bubbling and wrinkling defects with my leather dash 2 months after the factory warranty expired. I purchased a Mopar bumper to bumper extended warranty for 7 years. Took it to the dealership and they acknowledged they see this a lot but was told my extended warranty did not cover trim!
$4000 cost to replace but they will offer me a good faith cost of a $500 charge since the factory warrant just expired in the last two months.
The manufacturer has known about this issue and continues to install inferior materials in a $40k + vehicle.
I've owned multiple Durangos & Ram trucks for years and never had this issue.
LAST VEHICLE I'LL PURCHASE FROM CHRYSLER!

Just looked at the Maxicare contract coverage and it says nothing about the dash. Figures a known problem is not covered. I have an 18 that sits out in the hot sun. Wishful thinking would be they recall and replace them as Lexus did.

Parking on the roof isn't going to help the headliner :)

I think there is a thread in the help section that explains how to fix the image orientation.

Thanks for the update! It's nice to know they are somewhat standing behind the problem. Mine sits out in the hot sun in the summer it gets to at least 115 degrees inside. It's only 1 year old so time will tell!
