Brakes are meh

Howdy all! It’s been a long time since posting. My profile isn’t up to date (I know I’ll get on it). I recently bought an 05 WK Limited with a 4.7. All the bells and whistles even Quadradrive II (super cool). Anyway my question is about the brakes. When I got it the pedal almost mashed to the floor. So I bought new rotors and pads all the way around since they looked original. While doing the fronts a few of the pots were cracked to bits and fell out into pieces. Two brand spanking new calipers later I had new brakes all around even bled out all the old fluid. The brakes work, fine I guess it just takes more pressure than what I’m used to, to slow down and stop. The pedal doesn’t go to the floor but it’s just lack luster. Is this pretty common for these vehicles? Would changing out the master cylinder make any difference? Thoughts?

Doesnt sound right to me, but braking is a area that is relative to what you are used to, I've got a few different cars I drive regularly and the WK's brakes are somewhere middle of the pack, they were certainly a upgrade from my XJ's and are onpar with my Ford sedan that weights 1,000 lbs less. Maybe readup on how to test out the master cylinder for its performance.

(I've got the 5.7 but I think they all have the same braking setup)

I’m as sure as I can be. I run a hose into a clear bottle full of fluid and watch until the bubbles stop. Fluids in air out is how I’ve always done it. The rear calipers are still the originals but they were in fine condition. I should mention she has about 138k on the clock.

Are you using a two person brake bleeding process or you hook a power bleeder to the master cylinder?

I did the whole gravel road lock em up scene. :grin2: I used the two person method.

At work I drive a mixture of 2013> Ford Exporers and Dodge Durangos with the emergency package, my wife has a 2010 Jeep Liberty and my other car is a Scat Pack (Not comparing) and of them all the WK is right on the bottom for breaking performance. I'm wondering if changing out the rear calipers would have any impact.
