Submariner I think I am going to keep looking and save up a few more dollars to see what else turns up. I just wonder if all the cj's that are posted for $5 G's really sell for that amount or what they really sell for after being on the market for 6 weeks? Something I was thinking about.

I have not seen it personally, just looked it up on CL

I don't mean to be negative, just trying to offer you an opinion based on what I saw.

The tub and front clip look pretty abused. That alone makes me suspect about the rest.

That doesn't mean it IS bad, it just means I'm be suspect enough to want to know a bunch more info, especially before driving a few hundred miles round trip.

Will the seller send more specific info? And a lot more pics. If so, share them here, we really are a pretty helpful group.

The $3K price range here in the West is a very limited and tough range. It will admittedly be hard to find a decent rig at that price.

I know it's hard to spend more, but I find that the return on repairs is usually about 50% or less, meaning if it needs (for example) new fenders, the cost of one with good fenders is usually at least 50% less than what it would cost you to add and paint the fenders yourself. Sometime, spending an extra $1K can get you $2K-$3K ahead.

And though a winch is nice, old used winches are not hard to come by or expensive.

JMHO- HTH!

It is cheap enough price but how beat up is it? Sorta glad I did not drive 260 miles one way now. or not yet anyway.

It does look like a good trial rig, IF it is mechanically sound then I would think it would be worth the change especially with a winch on it.

Submariner did not know that, thanks for letting me know that. That is a very good point.

rixcj I bought a 1975 CJ5 rolling chassis years ago, to finish building. After finding out that the 1976-1983 CJ5's had way more aftermarket support and stronger frame design, I parted out the '75 and bought a '79.

Something to think about....

Submariner So what I am looking for is a cj5, mid 70's, v8, 3sp, ps taht is not to abuse. Don't have to be pretty, But it does need to get home so I can play with it. I can fix most stuff except gearing in the axles. I have a wire feed welder and can repair some rust.

anyone have one out there they want to part with for about $3000

Submariner Yep, 262 miles, man was I off on the milage. in 2 weeks I got to go to Medford, maybe I will stop by then. There is another 1970 "5" down I-5 near Sutherlin Oregon, it looks like a canidate to buy and it has a hard top, but a V6

Submariner yes it is in cottage groove, you know anything about it? The guy told me it had a small lead in the radiator and it was a little rough around the edges, but runs good.

I did not get down to get it yet. had to delay due to a doc appt.

Was thinking I would get down this weekend, if everything goes right.

I thought it wold only be 200 miles down there, maybe I should look at google maps again.

I'm with ya, man!

There's definitely different terminology in different areas of the country. Back when I lived in Kalifornia, Northern Kalifornia was pretty much anything north of Santa Cruz, Central Kalifornia was anything between Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara, and Southern Kalifornia was anything south of that. But then we also had the Central Valley or sometimes it was called the San Joaquin Valley.

Have a great day, Joon!

That's probably it, but you have to give me that his original post said "central oregon" which is clearly defined as Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson...
Yup! I'll give you that.

But for some reason, us west coast idiots (Especially us in WA) say central Washington when referring to the middle (both latitude and longitude wise) of WA, but central when referring to traveling south down I5 into Oregon

My money is on the cottage grove one, travel distance be damned!

(And my money is on it being pretty well abused, as well)

That's probably it, but you have to give me that his original post said "central oregon" which is clearly defined as Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. Since I live in Deschutes County, I know that part pretty well. I even PM'd him with an offer to help but apparently it was too much to ping back and tell me it's somewhere else.
