Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I remember thinking about drilling a second hole on my 80 CJ-5 but then my friend gave me the 8274 winch off his truck. The winch mount provided a sturdy mounting point for the tow hooks.

keith460 Just got home and confirmed the measurement between the two factory holes of the frame. They are, without a doubt, 2in. apart so the eBay hooks are the ones to get as they will bolt right on.

Thanks Scottydive for the eBay URL shortcut, I just may have to order a pair tonight.

Glad to see there are USA made ones available, i may well order some up. Shipping is the killer.
Solution for high priced shipping....Bagus applies for U.S.A. citizenship and moves here, brings CJ with him. Problem solved

scottyDive The ones in the ebay listing are the ones I bought. Holes are 2"

keith460 Since I am not near my Jeep by hundreds of miles, the edited picture below is the dimensions we seek as whether there is actually a Tow Hook that bolts directly onto the two existing holes in the front portion of the CJ frame.

Frame is shown upside down of course but it was the only one I could find that shows the two holes in question.

Quite a difference on the center-to-center mounting hole location. Bagus shows 1-3/8" while the ones you have a URL shortcut to are 3" center-to-center mounting hole locations.

X-Army Nice reference drawing. Interesting that they only show the front bolt...guess you have to stop the illustration somewhere.

Actually, those are my home-made version that work with my tow bar. But they work well for shackles, too.

Hurricane4 I think the Jeep CJ tow hook bolt center to center is 1 3/8". McMaster-Carr Tow Hook # 2589T9 specifications:

For Maximum Trailer Weight 10,000 lbs.
Overall
Depth 3 1/4"
Height 5"
Material Steel
Hook Opening Width 1 5/8"
Mounting Fasteners Included No
Mounting Hole
Diameter 1/2"
Center-to-Center 1 3/8"
Mounting Plate Thickness 1"

https://www.mcmaster.com/2589t9

etrailer lists the same dimension 1 3/8" hole center to center for the Rampage Tow Hook - https://www.etrailer.com/question-369437.html

keith460 McMaster-Carr sells high quality items and have been using them for both business and personal purchases for close to 40 years. Never had an item that was cheaply made from them, all good quality even down to the tinniest of hardware.

The hooks in the Jeep parts manual are like what Bagus has and always wondered how they utilized existing holes in both the frame and bumper and the spacing between the holes. Automotive manufactures typically use preexisting holes in frames, body structures that have plugs in them or some sort of guide outline so when an vehicle owner buys an approved accessory, it bolts directly on without having to drill any additional holes or a supplied template is included with the accessory for mounting. That's the importance of the hole spacing of the hook which Bagus points out to be 35mm or 1-3/8".

I don't know what the spacing is on my CJ offhand since I'm currently not near it, but there is a guide line on the front frame plastic overlay that gets removed for the installation of of said Tow Hook. I don't have any closeup photo of the front frame overlay at the moment either.

Yours may be mounted correctly. Here is the page from the parts manual. There are two additional bolts for each hook, but they may also be holding on the bumper. In which case mine are set back further on the frame.

You also have the tow eyes.
