2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 40K miles since new in 6 years!

:surprise: Lift Glass door is found open each morning mysteriously since it is checked as "CLOSED" each night.

Keys are accessible by no one else other than myself... vehicle in garage all nights.

Occurs only @ night & as we know, 2 presses of "Lift Glass" icon on key fob are required to open!

Both garage door opener and house alarm systems have been checked for possible erroneous signal transmissions which do not occur.

Original OEM #1 key fob allowed inadvertent opening some 3 years ago causing swap out to OEM #2 key fob use only! (#1's battery removed)

Don't feel as if I can be the only owner with this problem... so any assist would be very much appreciated, thanks!

Hmmm. A Mystery!! Could be MICE!? You could try disconnecting your battery and waiting long enough for everything to die then hook it back up and see what happens. Of course you will lose all your creature comfort setting like Radio buttons, power seat and pedal positions, etc, but that no big deal.

If your 2010 WK has a lift glass release button like my '06, that switch or wires may faulty (wet/corroded) causing the mysterious opening. Have you tried locking the Jeep at night (thus disabling the switch) to see if that prevents the problem?

mine use to randomly open due to a sticky glass button on my tailgate..if i leave the jeep locked no issues..if unlocked overnight my glass tended to be open the following morning..i pulled it down on the button with a pair of pliers and haven't had any issues since

In my case, the events occurred very occasionally and I think it was because of the sticky trunk button in the key fob.

When I put the key in the pocket, depending on the position and on the things in the pocket, it opened.

I would open the fob and check if the silicone buttons are OK and not sticky. Be careful when you clean it because it is very fragile at the edge of each button.

Nejeep - Yes... it appears that "locking" my WK @ night prevents inadvertent opening >:)... but I'd prefer not having to do that, if possible!

d3m0ns - Not sure if I get your drift on the "Window" button since mine is all the way "out or fully down" already due spring pressure. Sprayed with WD-40 just as a precaution... but "no joy" with that:confused:.

roncastro - Also took keyfob apart & examined pressure switches which appear to be OK along with a test of its battery under load which came out to 3.1 volts... so no luck there either.

A real WEIRDO, eh!:D

Next will most likely be a call to someone @ dealership to ask if some kind of diagnostic can pinpoint the problem w/o having to take everything apart to examine wiring.:brickwall

This just happen to my XK the first day back to work after the holidays, only I didn't notice that the glass had pop open and was against the garage door so when I hit the garage door opener I was greeted by a pop and the sound of shattering glass.

Needless to say I now check every morning now before opening the garage door

OK... the key fob was @ fault. It was super sensitive & would open with a super light touch from "anything", not just finger press & sometimes nothing while key was in ignition while driving.
Fix was to open up key fob & remove lift glass contact permanently (since never needed).

After 9 years, key fob's "Lock" button would trigger itself with minimum touch of anything & horn would announce the "lock". Removed that fob from service along with its battery.

I love the follow-up years later!!!

As I was reading through this not seeing that it was a resurrected post. But all I could think of was when the new ram body style came out in 2009. You could get auto down windows, option maybe? Most customers didn't know the truck did it and there were a handful of trucks that came in with angry customers, they went to a restaurant/store and came out to find all their windows down. From what I remember, Ram did away with this option because it was the cause of more anger than pleasure for customers. This required a double tap and hold of the unlock button to run the windows down. It was amazing how often it happened.

My suggestion would have been to take your key out of your pocket when you get home and see if it is still doing it.

Glad you got it sorted out!!!
