I got all of the parts that I had ordered from Summit installed today except the new sending unit. Most of them were just some interior loose ends (switch bezels, new tilt lever, windshield wipers, etc.) that needed to be wrapped up. The bit install was the borgeson steering shaft. This thing improved the steering greatly. That crappy bell coupling on the bottom of the factory shaft is junk. My steering is so much tighter now and the slight wonder that I had at highway speeds is completely gone. I can run 60mph now and let go of the steering wheel and it drives straight as an arrow.
I still have to install my cut to length spark plug wires and my new spark plug wire trays, but will do all of that when I go and get new plugs, oil and filters for my tune up.

Brown Santa showed up today with all sorts of goodies (Borgeson Shaft, parts to complete the dash, sending unit, etc.). After talking with a mechanic, and letting him look over my setup, he informed that my carb setup is plenty good enough for what I want to do with this jeep. I have decided to hold off on the sniper and attempt to get it running great with carb. I am going to replace all my lines with steel lines, and change out all my filters as well as put a spacer between my carb and manifold to stop any potential vapor lock. If I still have fuel problems, then sniper FI it is, but I really would rather not have to eat 1200 bucks just to get it running.
Also, is Bestop still the best top for these jeeps, or are there some other cheaper options that are just as good?

Long time since an update. Got the heat problem sorted. Replaced the thermostat, and my overheating problem went away. Unfortunately, my fuel issues have returned. I am fairly certain that it is filters, or trash in the fuel or lines. I bit the bullet and ordered the Holley sniper efi master kit. Should give me every thing that I need to totally upgrade the fuel system as well as add efi to the Jeep. And clean the tank too when I install it. Any tips I should know about this kit...?
I did manage to get the stereo installed this weekend and give it a bath. Pics below as usual.

After a couple of attempts this weekend, I have decided to scrap the idea of putting the bestop highrock 4X4 steps on the jeep. I figured out that I would have to cut them up too much to make them work with the side pipes. Going to build some kind of frame that comes off of the Jeep's frame and over the top of the side pipe that a stirrup step can bolt to. The entire setup with be fully removable.
Until then, plans are to tune it up this weekend and diagnose my heat issue some more. I'm still leaning towards a bad thermostat, so I'm thinking that I will put one in when I do the tune up.

I see. Does the skid actually hold the tank up, or does the skid drop, then the tank is still hanging there by straps?
Didn't get a chance to look at anything today. Maybe Friday I can look at it some. I want to get the cooling problem solved so I can drive it again. Going to work on that first on Friday.

|MetalMountainGoat||Yes the e fans were running. And it has a flex fan as well. I think the fans aren't the issue. I'm thinking cap, or t stat.|

|CoAce||Keep it simple, E-fans and fuse , Cap and Fluid , Hoses , T-stat , Pump. Were your fans running when it got hot?|

So, some issues arose Friday when I was out running errands in the Jeep. Drove all over town, and didn't have any problems until on the way back home. The temperature started climbing a out a mile away from my house. Jeep was 230deg when I parked it in the garage. There were no hoses collapsed, or any noticeable issues. Had to let it cool down before I could dig into it anymore. Gonna take a look at it this week, but I think I may have an issue with the t stat. Still need to get a tune up completed on this thing, but just haven't had the time.
I will be working on my steps this week to try and get them on. Then to address the overheating issue again.
Also have a radio to put in at some time or another, but life has been in the way of the build here recently. At least it is drivable and I can have fun with it even though it isn't complete.

|MetalMountainGoat||No recent Jeep work. Probably won't get a chance to work on it until after the holiday. The steps are too heavy to mock up by myself, and I am still waiting on my 6x9 speakers before I install my stereo.|

Started fitting my Bestop HighRock 4x4 steps today. Going to have to trim the front of them a tad bit to fit around the side pipes, but they should slide right between the pipes and the body and neither of them interfere with one anther.
These things are heavy by the way super beefy. I know the side pipes are going to still be exposed, but I really only intend on using them as steps only.
