2jhanna $5500us doesn't sound bad if it's rust free and all mechanics work.

She's looking for 7500 CAD (car is in Vancouver), about $5,500 USD. Price wise, and given the mileage, it seems about right for a Vancouver Jeep.

Re: rust - with the mild climate up here, and the lack of salt on the roads, most local Jeeps seem fairly solid. If they've been up north etc, then its a different story. It seemed pretty solid when I went to look - but I'm going to do a full check again tomorrow!

2jhanna Ok, for what ever reason, the pictures did load.

Rust doesn't look too bad but still do some double and triple checks.

It's nice it has a hardtop.

I don't know much about lift kits, but this one has multiple spacers on top of the springs, which is the most basic lift. And easiest to remove.

2jhanna To me the big number 1 thing is rust. It's a cancer. Double, triple check the frame, even inside and body. Lift up carpet and look at floor boards.

Number 2 is mechanical condition, leaks, operation of 4wd, road handling especially if lifted, transmission operation. Most of this stuff can be fixed.

The miles aren't out of line for the age, 18 years, less than 10k/year. Well cared for miles, oil changes, etc, aren't bad.

I couldn't see pictures.

You didn't mention or ask about price. If you're concerned, do local comparison shopping to form your own opinion.

Good luck. I bought my TJ years ago from a female that came from the U.K. and bought it new when she moved here.

2000 Jeep TJ 4.0 - Opinions Needed!

Hi everyone,

I've just moved from the UK and am looking to purchase my first TJ.

Been to look at this one today, and I'm tempted! Lady has had it for 10 years. Here's the spec's:

4.0 Standard (Manual Transmission)
270,000km (167,000 miles) - regular oil changes
Body is clean, no rust
Underneath looks clean (but would like opinions on this!)
Its had a lift
Interior is a bit tired, but I'm not too fussed about that
Clutch, rad, brakes & fluid, oil filter all changed (pics of receipts attached)

I'd love people's thoughts and what I should be checking for, and what could be on its way out. I know the 4.0 is a good engine, but I'm still nervous about a car with mileage that high!

Big album of photos and receipts from work done here
