That is correct. Which makes it nice because I can ask him exactly how he wants it built up. Plus he films and edits for a hunting show so we are going to document the whole build with pictures and videos and then he is going to throw it all together to make a BA video.

garet.friedrich Hey folks! I know i have been neglecting this thread quite a bit lately and i apologize! I didnt quit like Jeeps I promise, quite the contrary in fact.....let me give you a quick glimpse at my garage the past year(?)...
So you all know my 79 CJ5 by now...I dont know if she will ever truly be done but ive been enjoying her in the mean time.

As you can see i invested in a truck and trailer and have been putting them to work. I trailer-ed the Jeep down 2 hours to my hometown and showed the progress off to my dad and uncle and aunt who were the original owners. Needless to say they were blown away and very proud of the work I had done to their old jeep.

You would think the story would end there right? Nope, as you all know these things are addicting. So now i'm working to pay for it all, and i couldnt think of any way better than to do it by buying and selling Jeeps and Jeep parts.
It first started with this beauty...

I believe this 76 CJ7 was mentioned earlier in my thread. I bought it back from a buddy and swapped the 232 out for a 304. She had a lot of character and sounded mean after that! But like all good things she had to go. So after that i bought a close out sale on CJ5's! One guy selling 3 jeeps only an hour away! Too good to be true I know....Here's the line up and the future plans..

This 78 CJ5 has an old 304, hardtop, fiberglass tub, and a whole lot of rust! She will be parted out...RIP.
Attachment 3912133
This 73 CJ5 has a steeltub, skyjacker lift, dana 44s, and no drive train. The original plan was to part out as well.....but those plans have changed (more on that to come).

This 79 Cj5 has a 304,fiberglass body, fiber glass fenders, fiberglass hood, and is the bell of the ball! I had her sold before I even picked it up. Best part about that sale though is that she needs to be built up in running, driving, and excellent condition. So that quickly became my sole focus...

After I got this far I accidentally let my mind wander.... I keep making these nice Jeeps...what if i made one that was meant to get dirty? Now i know what you are thinking and yes all Jeeps are made to get dirty but if you cant tell right now i am an extremist. So if im going to build a jeep to get dirty then dana 44s and a skyjacker lift are the exact place i would start such a build! So let the fun begin...

I grabbed it from the farm i was storing it and quickly made room in the garage...

So yes I now have 2(!) Jeep builds going on and they couldnt be more different! The 79 i am removing the homemade lift kit (ugh shiver) and returning it to stock. Will be throwing on 31" tires on the stock axles and breathing life into the current 304 and calling it a day. THe 73 CJ5 looks to have the lift done right so that will stay for now. I like the dana 44s for this so they obviously stay. I plan to throw 35" tires on it plus a whole lot of alum tread plate armor for that "What rust?" look. Will also be stealing the old 304 out of the 78 CJ5 i acquired and dropping it in. Who knows if it will be any good? If not oh well bc this is basically a junkyard build. I dont plan to put anything too nice into something i plan to destroy haha.

So that's my life in a nut shell lately. I would love to hear feedback and thoughts on my projects (good or bad).

turbogus Fantastic thread, one little nit if I ever get into my 360 in Black Betty, going to make that oil feed line in the lifter valley to improve oil flow to that accursed distributor gear. I may have to wait a while though as I'm one of the working that's on welfare. Now on furlough, though.

garet.friedrich Hey all! Just checking in. The jeep still is not finished.....many little things yet to button up and figure out. I've also had umpteen different projects going on since my last post. Some jeeps and some not. I have been out driving the jeep around a little bit. Also currently restoring the hard top and doors. Might possibly have some pics of that later to come.

79 Restore

Good find! Mine started out like yours, but not quite as bad. Took me about 3 years, but I didn't work on it constantly and did things as $$ were available.

garet.friedrich Been awhile since I've updated this thread. I'm still plugging away on the 5. Been sorting out a lot of engine issues on a different thread, but once she's running 100% I plan to start posting updates on here again. Quick update: fender flares went on last night. I was leery at first but I've come around and actually like the look now.

This is what I have on there right now, but the heights aren't matching up. Currently brainstorming what I can besides shimming it up an inch.
