bluejunior Whatever your final choice, just do a hardware store TC drop for now to fix the vibes. Should be <$20 including new hardened metrics to replace the original bolt/stud setup. Just longer bolts plus some misc big nuts, steel spacers, washers, whatever you can find to squish in there as spacers.

kadetklapp I never thought my Jeep would go this high. To be honest I’m excited, but I didn’t anticipate that my Amazon/Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace mishmash of new parts would actually hoist this pig that high... Hence, my sudden unanticipated need to correct driveline angles.

kadetklapp I appreciate the input, seriously. That’s why I came back to the forums. The fact is I’m not a mechanic, I’m a self-employed quick lube jockey for my own fleet. Despite the knowledge I’ve gained here when putting it in practice I’ve thrown in the towel hence why I farmed out the lift to an actual mechanic.

bluejunior Sure, I ran a tcase drop for years until I managed to snag an SYE in a parts swap and many people do it without issue. Just need to make sure the new folks know the trade-offs in terms of risks and weaknesses even if an actual failure never manifests for many. Just about every option in an XJ is a tradeoff, if only in terms of something as simple as cash.

Before you drop the T case, pull that rear shaft and just check that your u joints are in good shape. My fiancé’s Jeep is at 3.5-4” of lift and I was able to remove the shine the lift springs came with (they would hav been the right angle for an SYE, but wrong for stock shaft) and replace one U joint and got rid of the vibration without the need to drop the crossmember.

Also, if you do determine you need to drop the crossmember, you can do it a washer or two at a time and you may find that only a small amount of drop is needed to get rid of your vibration.

As Blue said, dropping the T case will improve the rear driveshaft angle, but make the front worse. Everyone does it anyway because the rear shaft has a load on it at high speeds where the front does not, so your much more likely to feel a vibration from the rear. In the end, SYE is the proper fix for the long term.

Just for clarity: A TC drop makes the rear angles better, but the front worse. It also doesn't do anything to fix the increased distance between teh rear axle and the TC after the lift. Lift enough and try to drop, you'll ruin the front angles, pull the driveshaft into little enough spline engagement that the output, shaft or both get chewed up, or the whole damn thing will fall out durig flex.

3-4" it usually works out okay for light duty stuff, but an SYE with a proper length driveshaft absolutely is the right fix.
