|75SV1||I tired to replace the clutch assembly. It did not go well. The bearing went after 1/2 a year or so. I had other problems with the accessory drive, ie harmonic balancer. Most box stores do not sell the AC clutch kit. They do sell compressors with it though ??. I bought a cAC compressor rebuilt this time. Check E-Bay. There are some good prices. I can't remember if I bought the one from PA to TN possibly KY.|

if by "hub" you mean the clutch/pulley you can replace just the clutch assembly without opening the system, if that is indeed the problem. it is a bit of a pain, and you have to unbolt the compressor to get at it properly but the system stays charged.
buying just a clutch doesnt make sense though because the clutch kit costs about the same as a whole compressor. what some have done though is find a j/y compressor and swap the clutch from it. just make sure it is from a 99-01, 98 and earlier have slightly different clutch assemblies.
all that said, even with a bad clutch i dont understand the overheating.

A/C Compressor Problem
So the other day my 2001 XJ Limited overheated for the first time and it turned out to be the radiator hose, replaced that, filled it up again and it doesnt overheat anymore, but when I turned on the A/C, i heard a small noise and it overheated inmediatly. The A/C was ice cold, but the noise bothered me. Turned out to be the compressor hub (according to my mechanic)
The dilemma now is to either change the whole compressor or just the hub.
What would bethe best way to go guys?
