I'm 6'5" 220 and find my 5 "snug" to drive. I use it as a weekend warrior so I don't mind the limited space.
If the tub of the 5 your looking at needs body work (like it doesn't ) then consider the wheel house notch to move the seat back.
It comes down to a question of style vs practicality. Either way it's a CJ so you can't go wrong

I daily drive my -5 and love it. Sure it rides a little rough but so do the -7's I've ridden in. I'm 6'1" and don't have any problems getting in and out, but I only weigh around 140 so I'm sorta skinny which helps. I think you would be happy with either, I know I would.
Other than the interior room there really is not much difference. The only big advantage that the 7 has over the 5 would be in some of the newer aftermarket stuff like fastback tops and what not. Stuff like that is just not made for the 5's.

I love my CJ-5 but I only drive it off road so I can't say how it does as a DD. I think it depends on how well you set it up and maintain it.
Off road it handles like a Samurai's big brother (I know because I have one), a pure joy to drive and it stands out from the CJ-7s andTJs. The 258 with the 4-Spd. are a perfect combination with the stock 3:70 axles both locked. It's short wheel base limits the more agressive rock climbing but agressive tires are a must in order to take advantage of the drive system.
I was lucky to find one in good condition, they are very hard to find now and any of the fancy goodies you see are usually not available. If I were to start out now I guess I would go for a 1997 or up Wrangler, but I am satisfied with what I have and am not ashamed of her, especially when she outperforms a stock Rubi. That kinda makes you feel warm inside.

We should run a poll from this, I just don't know how.
My 2 cents though, I love my 5, but I'm on 5'6" and I can't stand it when someone asks what year "wrangler" it is. I got that question twice yesterday!!!
I like the curved door on the 5 better than the square one on the 7.

I Agree 5s are so fun & are more unique, but for a daily driver I would get a 7 or a newer YJ. You just learn how to get in & out with your cj5.

if you want a DD, find a '7
but if you just want somehting to play in, go for the 5. they are lots of fun

At 5'15" I fit fine in CJ5 but there are a lot more options if you run a CJ7.
I got so use to the 'Hump" in the door opening that I fell out of a CJ7.
(it was stopped so no worries!)

|BESRK||I'm 6'1" and about 260lbs and drive a CJ5.. love it. I've got the whole "sit on the hump and swing legs in/out" move down pretty good. I like CJ7s too and used to own one. There's just something about a shorter CJ5 that makes it more unique than the longer wheelbase of the CJ7... YJ... and TJ. That's just my humble opinion though. They're both awesome vehicles!|
