Understood, I like the powder idea. Unusual in an oil pump, wonder if there might have been some water that froze in there. I will be watching the thread to find out why. Gravity, air in oil out?

I have had some success with this product on rubber type seals and o-rings. AT-205 RE-SEAL
I don't usually buy snake oil type products but I must say it does help in some situations.

skizriz I avoid mud if at all humanly possible. I need to be careful not to let the line get abraided on rocks, but the same goes for steel cable. Just about everybody I wheel with uses synthetic line, I havent seen anything with it to complain about. The safety factor is what really got me to switch over from steel cable.

Mine fair lead is a roller and it needs rebuilt after a day in the brush, welded and ground into shape again and again where worn, then the rollers need replaced after some time.
What has been your experience with the strap in the mud under loads?

DougE I found the water neck a b*t*h to install leak free and ended up replacing the bolts with studs so I could slide the water neck into place without any possibility of wiggling around and messing up the sealant. You could use a couple of studs to slide the water pump into place and then replace with bolts after installing the other bolts in their locations.
