vdubbles24 I've decided to pass on the K5 chassis. Gonna stick with the 3" RC lift up front for now, gonna trash the body lift. Scored a set of Dakota springs from the local junkyard, I'll have to add a few leafs to make up for the 3' RC springs on the front. "ANY INFO OR HELP ON THIS WOULD BE GREAT!" Stretch the back and cut tub to accommodate. Tub is rough in spots so I'm not worried about it to much. Probably do some flat fenders on the front so I have room for the 33s. I'm pretty sure it has the narrow axles so 3" is gonna be plenty, I think it has a 3" body lift and like i said earlier it has to go.

vdubbles24 So I been thinking and researching. Axle swap from a 79' K5 3/4 ton axles, SOA Dakota rear leafs for the 10" stretch, and add to rear frame clip.

Now! My questions

1. Front leafs, I have this RC lift. Can I remove a couple leafs from rear 3" springs and use those springs up front?

"I know front springs are more narrow than rear, done researched the cj to yj swap threads"

2.what shackles do you guys recommend? I want something safe and dependable.

3. What's best "site sponsor or member" to order some perches from?

I can't pick up k5 chassis till this coming weekend, how much wider are the axles "estimate" just for a general idea.

Any advice or pointers, no bull sh*t please. I enjoy this site, cause a lot of people are here for the same reason. Jeeps, knowledge, and helpin each other.

Matt1981CJ7 I've never heard of anyone putting S10 springs on a CJ5, but I guess anything is possible.

Remember, CJ front springs are only 2" wide.

vdubbles24 Been reading all this stuff about "bastard S10 springs" on yjs. Could I use s10 springs on all 4 corners of the CJ? Springs are a lil longer, I'd say it would soften up the ride, be easier on wallet as well.

Yep, lose the RC springs, and install some decent springs.

RCs are probably the worst riding springs on the market.

vdubbles24 Busy afternoon.

The PO cut rear brake lines, so for now there blocked off. I bled the front disc, new throttle cable, and complete tune up. Ole thing don't run bad. Gotta rebuild the carter 1brl wants to overload and flood out at times. So after all this I rigged up a seat.



Fired her up and took her for a test ride around the block. Neighbors think I'm crazy. It supposedly had a NEW 4" lift. Wow this thing rides rough as a cob. Only suspension is the tires. Steering is really loose reminds me of a death wobble. Stops decent with front disc only but I'm a replace ALL the brakes booster and all. Power steering pump is loose. Looks like it was rigged up at one point in time. Gonna have to fix that as well.

All in all the lil trip around the block "5xs" was fun. The lil 232 seems rather strong for it's age. No smoke what so ever. 2 oil leaks one at distributor the other is where oil pressure gauge screws into block. Both simple fixes. Radiator has no leaks water flows good. Power steering is smooth as silk. All in all the whole lil jeep this far has me impressed. 41 years old and god only knows what hell it's been put through. I'm happy with it. Fun to work on, all steel, and straight to the point.

Going through the process in Indiana to get paperwork. Had deputy out today for another vin check, mailed off first set of papers. Once it's all back and good I'll go crazy with it. As for now just gonna focus on running, stopping, and steering correctly. If I can't get paper work I'll have me a lil trail rig.

So would this be the proper shift pattern, I've googled it and saw a few different set ups. I'm pretty sure my drive train is stock. Is there a simple way to identify axles from the exterior?

And T14 transmission standard with the non-V8's.

Matt1981CJ7 I don't think there is such thing as a Dana 20 rear axle. IIRC, for a '74, the common setup was:

- Dana 44 rear axle
- Dana 30 front axle
- Dana 20 t-case
- T-15 transmission (T-18 optional)

Someone correct me, if I'm wrong. There's a ton of info on the web for IDing your driveline. A few searches should turn up the info you need.

Mike Romain You only want a light coating of something like white lithium style grease in the hubs. Too much or heavy grease binds up in the cold.

vdubbles24 I feel like a idiot. My bad I shoulda known that. Anyhow I'm a pull both hubs and grease em well.

What's best sheet metal for repair panels? I've always used 16ga on other projects that be adequate enough for a old jeep?
