jkufrancesca Yeah I’m just curious I bought the same ones yesterday part number ropcom35-0 and was told they were removed from a Comanche but the shackle on them adds another 4” of lift I just bought the springs for a solid four so curious if the stock would be problematic. But I’ll try and get to them today with some weight

CJ7-Tim It is very common for XJ and MJ leaf springs to "seem" to be too short. Often I have had to install the front bushing bolt and then lower the Jeep to put weight on the leaf spring to install the rear bolt. You do have to be careful the Jeep doesn't fall off the jack or jackstands, and that you don't get your fingers or hands caught between the springs and other hard stuff.

Obviously the larger bushing is the front bushing, so you really can't put them in backwards.

cyclejeep It appears that XJ spring #s are ROP-XJ45-0. I missed Rustys on the phone today. I'll try back tomorrow and report! Thanks guys.

Motorcharge Yeah I got nothing on the part number either though I do see it in the picture. Just looked at mine and the short side is forward. MJ leafs are significantly longer than XJ leafs are and one side is obviously longer on them. As for the arch in them, they should have a lot more than factory with a spring under setup. Having no weight on it might make some difference but not that much. Even when I have mine on a lift at work the shackle isn't touching the frame.

They've got to be XJ leaf packs. If they were on backwards the axle would be pushed noticeably too far back. If they're XJ leafs they'd be too short and pull the shackle forward like they're doing.

I checked Rusty's site and couldn't find a match for that part number. Google came up with nothing also. There was a photo of an XJ 4.5 kit that had a legible part number on the spring that read ROP-XJ45-0. If that part number code applies to all of their kits then it looks like you don't have a 4.5 inch spring. I'd call Rusty's and have them sort it out for you.

cyclejeep Thanks for the feedback Motorcharge. There is a variation in length between eyelet and centering pin (26" and 31"). Even before mounting the axle, the length demands that the shackle be forward which tells me that the eyelet to eyelet length may be too short...or am I missing something else. Must the axle be mounted before attaching the rear leaf to the shackle?

Motorcharge Then they must be backwards. They shouldn't be centered on the axle. There's a short and a long side.

cyclejeep I'm confident that the spring is in the correct direction. The spring part # is ROPCOM35-0. When measured along the leaf, they are the same dimensions as the factory springs. However, they are significantly more curved.

LAF1269 If I had to guess, I would say that you might have XJ leaf packs on there. What's the part number on the leaf spring?

Motorcharge You don't have the leaf packs on backwards do you? And you did order the Comanche and not Cherokee leaf packs right?

Comanche Leaf and Shackle

I've got a 1989 comanche that I am attempting to install a Rusty's Offroad Products 4.5" lift. Front end is complete which was a total piece of cake thanks to all of the anti-seize used at the factory The rear end is another story. The spring pack has considerably more arch and as such requires that the shackles be pulled so far forward as to touch the frame (not good). Anyone run into this problem? Solutions?
