BlaineWasHere You should be able to find a 231 or 242 that will swap right in for cheap at local slavage yard. That IS worth swapping.

IMO if you 249 works just keep it.

Swamp Boy The NP 207 is designed for smaller displacement engines. I dont think it would be strong enough to hold up even to the 4.0 plus its only 260:1 and your 249 is a 272:1 (as is 231 and 242)

Not worth it in my opinion..

249 to 207 swap?

My buddy is upgrading from his '86 XJ (2.8 L's of thunder) to something newer with a 4.0. He said I can have his old TC (NP207) for some of the work I did trussing his front axle and building his front bumper. I haven't read about any swap of this nature so I assume it isn't as straight forward as the 249-->242 swap, if even possilble. Any ideas? Oh yeah, it was behind a 5 speed also.
