Luke95 I pulled the my blown up 4.0L out and have the new motor ready to go in so that's tomorrow project. I'm now looking forward to the reinstall. 4L #4 in this chassis.

kluttsy01 Buddy told me he's stripping his cherokee apart to make it a strict mud jeep, told me I could take whatever I wanted so I got myself an actual headliner! Cane out of an 01 even has the sound bar. It didnt have any fabric but that just made it even better.

kadetklapp After searching loyally I thought I tripped over a deal on an ARB bumper for the XJ. After a trip to pick it up three hours away during what may have been a stay at home order, I got it to realize it had been hacked on by the methhead PO who apparently used it to experiment with cutting blades and a torch. It's at a friend's house now getting somewhat repaired, but I've got some questions about fitting it. Anyone with one of these wanna hit me up I'd appreciate it...

She's a beaut. I do like the way the 4.0/AX-15 combo drives. I added a B&M short shifter which really makes the shifting feel more direct and less like I'm driving an old farm truck. I do wish the AW4 was in the TJ, and ZJ/WJ. Chrysler automatics are just garbage. And the early TJs had a 3 speed auto... really, a 3 speed in 1997?? The AW4 might not be the smoothest, but with Dex/Merc III fluid drain and fills every 30k and a trans cooler my XJ was silky smooth.

Good to know. I just picked up my first AX-15 vehicle (a TJ) a few months ago and thought this occasional grind was a sign the clutch was on it's way out.

That's a good idea. If I had one (hint to Ralph77) I'd give it a try. For now, I'll rely on my 10 year warranty and if I snap one every year for 10 years I'm good. I check my oil about once a month and it doesn't use oil or antifreeze, so I really don't have a need to open the hood much.

p.s. I watched the vids on replacing it and removing the mech by drilling out the rivets to disconnect the cable. I easily bent the mech with my hand and the cable comes loose with no problems. Less work for me.

Gotta figure it would be so much easier with the cable out of the Jeep too.
I have a cable luber . I didn't use it on the Jeep . With the hood up , the cable has a nice downhill run , all the way to the inside handle .
I simply held a rag behind the cable , where it comes out of the sheath and sprayed a little lube , letting it flow into the sheath . I did that a few times and did something else , then came back and hit it again and repeat ...
That really only has to be done every couple years .

Ralph77 My buddy had a big boat Olds 4 door way back when.
Hood release broke just like yours. He did the vice grip thing too.
And never fixed it. LOL.

I rigged up my redneck hood release until the new part shows up. I can't believe how thin the actual cable wires are. Now I can close the hood to drive around today.

p.s. I tried it once. I'm not pushing my luck.
