ThomasYJ I don't know what kind of assets you've got at your disposal, but if it's feasible why not talk him down a few hundred dollars, snag the MJ and then swap in a 4.0.

cruiser54 That diesel absolutely sucks. Run, don't walk, away.

thevanillaninja rockauto.com would be your best friend for an engine like that, they have listings for honestly just about anything you'd need. Sure, you pay shipping and have to wait a few days, but most parts are still better quality than what you'd find at your FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store.)

shredduck I picked up a running 4.0 MJ for $800. Like everyone else said in this thread, the diesel is rare so finding parts are going to be really hard to find and expensive.

Just to put it into perspective my buddy has a 07 liberty with the mercedes CRD diesel and he's looking at a few hundred for a tensioner if he finds one.

DonBC Jake, 2WD?, 4X4?. It might not be a big gamble if you can talk the owner down $2-300 more and the rest is in good shape. I use to have a Dodge Ram 50 with a 2.2L Mitsubishi turbo diesel and really liked it and loved the low fuel consumption. It would blow a head gasket every time I worked it hard on long trips. Something to do with the aluminum head warping when it got hot. I don't know what engine was used in the Comanche but there must be some others that can give you some information. I have an 89 4 x 4 with the 4L engine and frequently travel to the Comox valley area as my son lives in Courtenay if you want to discuss this further.

It will be more like park it, spend hrs trying to find a part then waiting days or even weeks to get it if you even can, then you are going to pay an arm/leg and a kidney for it.

Question before I buy

Hello, I'm new here, my name is Jake. I have found a Jeep Comanche for sale. from what I'm told and the pictures, the truck is in pretty good condition, except for on thing. The head gasket has been blown. Is it worth it to buy? (the seller is asking $1000) The Comanche has a 2.1L Turbo Diesel. How much would the head gasket be, and is there any compatible gaskets that could work with it if they are difficult to find?
