Yep, I've done that.
I crushed one oil pan on my TJ and had to replace it. I dented the new one twice before I finally got around to installing my engine skid.
For your Jeep, I'd recommend the Skid Row. It is a fine product and will hold up well for most people. I know a few that have managed to bend one, but they were giving it serious abuse at the time, well above what it could be expected to stand up to.
I prefer the Jeep Medic, but I don't think they make one for the 4. It's thicker than the Skid Row at 1/4" vs. 3/16". I have never heard of anyone, other than myself, that has managed to bend one.

Well since he is with a 2.5L, his options are limited. I think only Skid Row makes a decent (read thick) skid for the 2.5. I checked on a Jeep Medic skid and they don't make em for 2.5's, let alone my 97.
But Skid Row skids will work with Nth, 33Engineering, and TF belly ups. So all is well for me.

I had a Jeep (Warn) engine skid on the 04 Sahara but went to a JeepMedic on the Rubicon. The JeepMedic is a lot stronger than the Warn, costs more too, but well worth it. Skids are not the place to get tight with the wallet, you get what you pay for.

Skids are good! I have a good time wheeling in my stocker with the skids in place. I don't think that would be the case if they weren't there because then I'd be worried. My lack of experience/stock height is covered by the skids.
The lift kit is next.
I have the Skid Row oil pan/tranny skid. It covers all the important stuff (oil pan and tranny). Only downside is that changing the oil is a bit more difficult with it on and for tranny fluid changes I'll have to remove it and then reinstall, but IMO it's worth it.
I also like my Warn gas tank skid. It's taken more than it's share of hits. I don't regret investing in that one at all. Same with the diff, LCA and steering box skids. Then there's the A to Z rockers.
You can't have too many skids!

Not to scare ya but not all skids can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'
It has been persuaded back into shape though. It did its job saving my oilpan and exhaust.
