vishrb So as an update for any future searches. I was able to replace all four sensors with only soem issues on the bank 2 sensor 2 swap. That one plugs into the wire harness in a very ackward spot. You can reach it from several angles but not very well and with very little leverage. finally i decided to pop the wire harness out fo the spot it was fastened to and then I completely unscrewed the sensor. At that point I was able to pull the wire harness and sensor from its location behind the motor to a more managable place. At that point I was able to detatch the two and atatch the new sensor. I then had to feed it back into position.

Also as food for thought I was only getting a p0153 and p0152 ces error. So only the bank 1 sensor 1 was having an issue. I went ahead and bought all 4 sensors frm rock auto thinking I would swap all out at one time as they are likely to all need it at some point. When I swapped them out I realized that three of them had already been swapped out with NGK sensors. So I could have done without swapping all four out. No harm no foul but one might check to see that a previous owner had not already done some of the work before buying all of them.

Next was that the CES code did not clear on its own after the new sensors were installed. I was worried that maybe the issue was not fixed so I decided to disconnect the battery and let it sit for 10 or so minutes. I rehooked the battery and the erorr was cleared. I have driven 100 miles since then with no new error. Not sure if that is enough time to call it fixed but so far so good.

Ha, The Disco had such promise. To bad shoddy design ruined it. When it was working it was a great vehicle. WHEN being the keyword. But that is the past and now I have a sweet jeep. So onward and upward.

I am a bit gun shy after my experience with my land rover discovery 2. I got it at 53000 miles and had it three years. The repairs reached over 30% of purchase price in the first two. And that was not with the dealership doing the work or it would have been much worse. All that being said this seems much more like regular maintenance for a vehicle at 100,000 miles. So no biggie.

vishrb So I got under the jeep and was looking at the 02 sensors. What I saw worried me a bit. It has a quarter inch coating of what was once mud on that whole y pipe area. It seems to have hardened into some form of pottery. I coudl not scrape it with my finger nails. I am goign to take it to the car wash today and try and get all that off. I woudl assume that proper heat dispalcement can not take place with that coating on there. The CES went off last night but I assuem it will come back. Anyway I think I will just get that caked on mud off and then wait for the light to come back on. If it does I will go ahead and replace the specified sensor.

Yep. I went ahead and replaced all three. I figured if one of the mini's was dead, it was a matter of time on the second one. Also replaced the larger downstream cat, just for my piece of mind. I mean, the mini cat material had to go somewhere.... probably stacked in my larger cat. I recycled the ones I took out and got a little cash back on those. Some places will give you $30-$50 for an old cat.

I had a pre-cat completely dump its innards downstream, blocking the cat.

Kept throwing O2 sensor codes.

I found the complete Y-pipe with pre cats on Ebay for ~$350 shipped. Lots cheaper than any of the parts warehouses or retailers.

You may not need it, but you've got that information now for the future.

Helpful hint, print out the price on em from Rockauto.com and take it to your local parts store. I went to Advance Auto and they matched the price. Saved me a ton of $$$.

Unfortunately, it turned out one of my cats was completely useless. The filter media had completely broken down and it was empty. If you keep having issues, it is most likely a worn out cat.

2005-2006 Wanglers are notorious for this, you can go back and look at your other thread, I listed that as a common issue...
