NICE! I just did mine. It didn’t pass safety so I had “excessive” play and they would t pass it. In addition the head lights were too faded. I replaced upper and lower ball joints, wheel hub bearing abs rotor, both sides! Had to rent the press from the auto parts store. Other tips Use light sand paper and clean the rust inside the knuckle where the hub goes in. Add a thin coat of grease. On the upper and lower knuckle, use the sand paper and clean the holes for the ball joints, again a light coat of grease. Take time and clean all existing parts with wire brush, makes it all fit together nicely. I had ordered the Mopar upper and lower ball joint and it came with a brass sleeve, almost looks like a helio coil. Not sure what it is. See my other post |

Wow great post After reading your post it looked easy so my son and I (he did most of the work) gave it a whirl. Biggest job I've tackled. We changed both front axles and hubs in three hours. I think spraying the bolts with PG Blaster for two days prior helped a lot. |

Muzramp | Thanks, this helped me out a great deal. Here's a tip if you can't get the axle nut off. I spend several hours trying remove the nut. Get the biggest breaker bar home depot has. I used a five foot steel pipe, have someone apply brakes with engine on. And it should come right off. |

2000jeeps | I changed out both axles on my 2000 grand cherokee and it drove great for about two months. Now when I turn left I get a bad grinding noise from the passenger front. Is it possible one of the new axles are bad already? |

If the knuckle won't let go of the hub, stick a deep socket between the ear of the outer axle and the inner C of the knuckle and turn the steering wheel. Do this to the othet side of it, alternating it until the hub is free. This makes getting getting a stubborn hub out almost effortless.![]() |

Thanks for that link .. Those pictures will help a lot. Good write up . .I should be cble to do that with no problem other than breaking loos the 36MM . I understand how that could cause issues . I do have a CP 1/2 air wrench and also a 3/4 drive air wrench . But my compress is getting weaker . So I now have a 2nd compressor I can plug both together if need . .. Also Back at work a lot of those wheel bearing hubs were a bugger to get out . Anyone had that Issue . |
