Need some help!

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 4.7ltr named Goldy. I had it lifted 4.5". Everything works just fine except the air conditioner and the speedometer. Recently had a new VSS installed. Worked great and was back on the road. About 4 hours later, the speedometer and the A/C stopped working at the same time. Engine and everything else worked fine. Had two mechanics look at it and both said I would have to continue to drive it in that condition until it just stopped working. Goldy has never left me stranded yet. I don't like the idea of getting stranded out in the mountains where a tow truck won't be able to come pick me/us up.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, what was the cause and how did you get it fixed?
